Four Arrested in Connection with Murder of Singer’s Wife in the Dominican Republic
The National Police of the Dominican Republic has apprehended four individuals connected to the murder of Zeneida Socorro Castillo, the wife of well-known merengue artist Gilberto Julián Sarante, also known as Julián Oro Duro. The tragic incident occurred on September 21, when the singer returned home to Santo Domingo Este, only to find his wife had been held and ultimately killed.
The arrested suspects include Phillips Michael Tejeda Vásquez, Juan Carlos Hernández García (known as Peña), Kevin Dariel Germán Troncoso (known as Yandel, 23), and Lawrence Mark Liranzo Marcos (known as Chiquito, 18). Authorities report that all four suspects previously had working or trusted associations within the artist’s inner circle.
Tejeda Vásquez, identified as an air-conditioning technician, had previously provided services at properties owned by the singer. Investigators believe that he may have coordinated with the other suspects. Liranzo Marcos had personal ties to the family and was known to be associated with construction work on a new villa for Julián Oro Duro.
The attack took place when Sarante arrived home, where he and Castillo were ambushed following a prolonged period during which his wife was held captive. Reports indicate that Castillo suffered torture before her death, while Sarante sustained serious head injuries during the assault and is currently in the process of recovery.
The National Police, along with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, continue to investigate the crime and collect further evidence. The brutal nature of the attack has shocked citizens across the country, raising concerns over safety and security.
The authorities have confirmed that all suspects are in custody and are being questioned regarding the details of the incident.
