Hundreds of families attended the 15th annual Celebrate Science Indiana Festival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on October 10, providing children and parents with opportunities to engage in hands-on science activities.
Organized by the Science Education Foundation of Indiana, the festival attracted approximately 4,000 attendees, including students, families, educators, and science enthusiasts. Participants explored a variety of interactive stations focusing on robotics, health science, concrete-making, video game design, and model airplanes, promoting connections between young people and professionals in the fields of science and technology.
Robert Yost, Executive Director of Celebrate Science Indiana, explained that the festival aims to introduce children to science at an early age and foster family learning, complementing school education. “Science lives everywhere. Science doesn’t just live in classrooms,” Yost stated, emphasizing the importance of exposure to scientific fields for career development.
Glen Cook, Executive Director of the Science Education Foundation of Indiana, shared his insights from his 38 years of teaching physics and chemistry. He highlighted the festival’s impact on children as they discover new concepts and embrace their curiosity. Cook noted that such experiences can deepen their understanding of the world, encourage further education in science, and help address Indiana’s growing demand for skilled professionals in science and technology.
As the festival continues to grow, it remains focused on inspiring the next generation of innovators and promoting a passion for STEM education among Indiana’s youth.
