West Ham secured a decisive 6-0 victory over Lincoln City in the Championship match at the ProAmpac Stadium, benefiting from a significant advantage after Lincoln was reduced to nine men early in the game.
Lincoln faced a challenging start when Tom Hamer received a straight red card less than three minutes into the match. Conor McGrandles followed suit by being sent off 20 minutes later for a last-man foul on Jarrod Bowen, leaving the Imps severely outmatched.
Despite being a player down, Lincoln managed to hold off West Ham until the latter stages of the first half. Konstantinos Mavropanos eventually broke the deadlock, heading in a Bowen corner just before halftime.
The second half saw West Ham take complete control, with Edvin Austbo scoring shortly after the restart. Just a minute later, Bowen added a third with a surprisingly low shot that found its way into the net. Pablo made it 4-0 with a finish from an Austbo assist, and then Tomas Soucek scored twice in the closing minutes to complete the rout.
This was Lincoln’s first league match against West Ham in nearly 70 years. The Imps made five changes from their previous match, while West Ham also fielded four different players compared to their draw against QPR.
Following the match, Lincoln’s head coach Tom Shaw acknowledged that his team faced a difficult night. He commented on the early red cards, stating, “They were both red cards and two decisions the referee definitely got right.” He expressed frustration at being unable to compete effectively after the quick dismissals, noting, “That 20 minutes makes me think we really could have troubled them.” Shaw emphasized the need for his team to learn from the experience and bounce back quickly.
West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised Lincoln’s resilience despite being down to nine men and noted his team had to adjust their approach after the initial goal. “It changed after the second goal, and we played much better,” he said, highlighting improvements in patience and clinical finishing.
Looking ahead, West Ham will aim to build on this victory in their next league fixture, while Lincoln will seek to regroup following a challenging outing.
