MORGAN — Ogden High School’s football team encountered a tough loss on Thursday, falling to Morgan, 48-7, in a region game that extended their losing streak against the Trojans. The defeat marks another setback for Ogden, which has not won against Morgan since 1967.
Despite a promising start for Ogden (5-4, 2-2 3A North), highlighted by a significant first-down pass from Emmett Rector to senior Jack Thompson, the momentum quickly shifted. The Trojans’ Bridger Schiffman intercepted two passes, disrupting Ogden’s early offensive efforts.
Morgan quarterback Owen Gilson led the charge, throwing for three touchdowns, including an 80-yard completion to Rhett Larsen, and scoring another with a run. This helped the Trojans (8-1, 4-0) establish a commanding 27-0 lead by halftime.
Ogden managed to respond with a touchdown in the third quarter, as Rector connected with Thompson on a 23-yard pass. However, this was not enough to change the game’s outcome. Coach Terry Larsen expressed disappointment, stating, “I felt like we just didn’t come to play tonight. (Morgan) was more physical than us. We’ve got to figure out ways to get in the end zone when we need it.”
The Trojans continued their dominance into the second half, scoring again shortly after the break with a 9-yard touchdown catch by George Thurston, extending their lead to 34-0. Morgan’s junior quarterback, Bridger Neuenschwander, later added another touchdown pass to Cooper Allen in the fourth quarter.
With this victory, Morgan secured its eighth consecutive win and remains undefeated in the region. Head coach Jared Barlow noted the importance of preparation, saying, “You can’t overlook a team like Ogden. You’ve got to execute really well, so that was the focus this week.” Gilson’s performance has improved throughout the season, with Barlow praising his ability to adapt and play to his strengths.
As the regular season approaches its conclusion, Morgan is preparing for a road trip to Logan, aiming to finish the season undefeated in the region. Meanwhile, Ogden is focused on their final game against Ben Lomond, hoping to finish the regular season with a winning record for the third straight year.
