OSCP has successfully closed a Series A financing round led by New Science Ventures, with participation from Emerging Ventures and 2050 Capital. The funding will be used to scale production of the company’s ITAR-free photonic gyroscopes and inertial measurement units (IMUs).
As part of the financing agreement, Somu Subramaniam, the founder and Managing Partner of New Science Ventures, will join OSCP’s Board of Directors.
OSCP specializes in developing photonic gyroscopes and IMUs designed for platforms that require reliable navigation in environments where Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals are compromised or unavailable.
The company plans to leverage the newly acquired funds to increase its production capabilities in Montréal, expand its engineering and sales teams, and introduce its next generation of photonic inertial sensors to the market.
OSCP indicated that the demand for resilient navigation solutions has grown beyond military applications and now affects civilian infrastructures such as airports and shipping lanes, where GNSS interference has become increasingly common.
The company’s products aim to provide tactical-grade photonic accuracy while keeping the size, weight, power consumption, and cost comparable to traditional MEMS-based systems.
Currently, OSCP serves various sectors, including space, defense, marine and subsea operations, rail, robotics, and autonomous ground systems. All of its products are manufactured in Canada and are ITAR-free.
Since completing the financing in August, OSCP has launched NavigationGate, an inertial navigation system tailored for platforms operating in the absence of reliable satellite signals. The company has also added support for ArduPilot and an open-source ROS 2 driver for its MK2 IMU family.
Additionally, OSCP has qualified as a supplier on Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative Marketplace.
“Losing the satellite signal used to be a battlefield problem. Now it shows up over airports and shipping lanes. Customers want navigation they can trust when GNSS drops out, and they want it ITAR-free. This round lets us build more of it here, and faster,” said Kazem Zandi, Founder and CEO of OSCP.
Somu Subramaniam expressed enthusiasm about joining OSCP, stating, “We are very excited to join the team at OSCP to build the world’s best IMUs in terms of navigation performance, size, and cost. These IMUs have the potential to completely change the autonomous navigation paradigm in a wide range of applications in the defence and transportation sectors.”
