Cristopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies has been named a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award, a recognition highlighting his outstanding performance during the 2023 MLB season. This marks the second consecutive year that a Phillies pitcher has received this nomination.
Sanchez had an impressive season, finishing with an 18-7 record over 33 starts, leading Major League Baseball in wins. He recorded a 2.91 ERA and struck out 231 batters, showcasing his effectiveness as a key player for the team. His contributions were reflected in a wins above replacement (WAR) of 8.1, matching his performance from last year.
Despite his personal accomplishments, Sanchez faces tough competition for the Cy Young Award. He is up against World Series champion Jacob Misiorowski and Chris Sale from the Atlanta Braves, who also had strong seasons.
The winner of the Cy Young Award will be announced on November 11. If Sanchez claims the award, he would become the first Phillies pitcher to do so since Roy Halladay in 2010.
