USA and Dominican Republic have advanced to the finals of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2026, set to take place on Sunday.
The final day of the Super Round was held at Parque Kukulcán Alamo in Merida, where the USA secured its finals spot by defeating Japan 4-1, finishing the Super Round with a record of 4-1. The Dominican Republic clinched its place earlier with an 11-4 victory against Chinese Taipei, concluding the Super Round at 3-2.
With their superior record, the Dominican Republic’s position in the final is secure regardless of the final result from the upcoming match between Mexico and Nicaragua. Japan, also finishing the Super Round at 3-2, will compete for the bronze medal, with their opponent still to be determined as Chinese Taipei ended its run at 2-3.
In its match, the Dominican Republic took an early lead over Chinese Taipei, scoring four runs in the first inning and following up with two additional runs in the second. They capped their performance with another four runs in the fourth inning. Key contributors included Angel Montas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Axel Heredia with two RBIs, and Angel García with two hits and three RBIs. Airam Burgos earned the win, allowing just one run in 3.2 innings.
The USA’s win against Japan involved a strong performance in the third and sixth innings, where they scored two runs each time. Paris Head went 2-for-2, achieving a triple and an RBI, while Paxton Scoggin also had two hits and an RBI. On the mound, Noah Osterman dominated for 4.1 innings, giving up only one run on four hits.
In the Placement Round concluded at Estadio Beto Ávila in Cancún, Venezuela claimed seventh place after an extra-inning victory over Cuba, finishing with an unbeaten record of 5-0. Other results included Czechia defeating Germany 6-0 and Australia earning a 5-1 win against South Africa, finishing the round with matching records of 3-2.
The upcoming finals will feature the USA against the Dominican Republic on Sunday, while Japan prepares for the bronze medal game, with the details of their opponent awaiting the results of the final Mexico-Nicaragua match.
