A new Dick’s House of Sport is set to open in Boardman, Ohio, aimed at expanding the traditional offerings of Dick’s Sporting Goods. The Boardman Township trustees have approved a notice of intent for this new facility, which will be constructed on a site that previously housed a Kmart, which closed about ten years ago.
Details of the Project
The upcoming Dick’s House of Sport will encompass approximately 100,000 square feet and will provide a variety of athletic merchandise, including sportswear and equipment. Alongside retail space, the facility is expected to feature several amenities, although specifics on what will be incorporated are not yet clear. Similar locations typically include facilities such as a rock climbing wall, a turf field, multisport simulators, a golf simulator, and even an ice rink.
Boardman trustee Matt Gambrel expressed enthusiasm for the development, pointing out its potential positive impact on the community. “We’re always excited to have new businesses coming to Boardman. That’s part of what makes Boardman great,” he said, highlighting the location’s role as a destination in Mahoning County that attracts visitors and families.
The construction will be managed by the company FLICORE, though a start date remains undetermined. The Boardman Zoning Department indicated that construction is pending until stormwater management requirements are met to obtain the necessary zoning permit.
As further information becomes available regarding the construction timeline and specific amenities of the new facility, local news outlets will provide updates to the community.
Why It Matters: The opening of Dick’s House of Sport in Boardman signifies a significant investment in the area, likely to boost local employment and contribute to economic growth. Enhanced recreational facilities may also promote community engagement and activity, supporting healthier lifestyles among residents.
