Elon Musk has allocated approximately $366 million in political donations for the 2026 U.S. midterm election cycle, with about $276 million of that amount spent since July to support Republican efforts to maintain control of Congress. This significant expenditure positions Musk as one of the largest political donors for this election cycle, according to campaign finance records.
Musk’s contributions come amid a context of improving chances for Democrats to reclaim control of the U.S. House and Senate. The funds were confirmed by a spokesperson for his super PAC, America PAC.
Musk’s spending includes notable allocations to various Republican groups since July. Key donations consist of:
- $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).
- $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports House Republicans and is aligned with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
- $76 million to Musk’s own America PAC.
- $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, backing Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign in Texas.
- $10 million to the Republican Governors Association.
- $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
America PAC is actively assisting Republican candidates in seven battleground states and nearly three dozen House races. The anticipated disclosure of these contributions will occur when many super PACs are required to report their third-quarter spending by Thursday.
Additionally, Musk has previously contributed nearly $90 million during this election cycle to initiatives and candidates from prior elections, which includes support for an unsuccessful candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and a controversial program compensating voters who endorsed certain issues.
Notably, Musk had also spent approximately $290 million during the last election cycle when Donald Trump won the presidency against former Vice President Kamala Harris. This ongoing investment underscores Musk’s significant involvement in the political arena, particularly as Democrats have initiated calls for investigations into his business dealings as CEO of SpaceX and other related ventures.
