Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in several European cities on Saturday, calling for an end to what they described as Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
In London, protesters passed the British Parliament, holding signs that read “End the genocide” and “Free Palestine.” Aimee Shalan, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, spoke to the crowd, marking three years of ongoing conflict in Gaza and urging “full sanctions on Israel,” according to the AFP news agency.
Despite a ceasefire declared one year ago, Israeli strikes on Gaza have continued almost daily, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting approximately 1,450 Palestinian deaths since the truce began.
The Metropolitan Police in London reported making “several arrests,” including individuals carrying placards associated with Palestine Action, a group banned in the UK. Officers also warned that they would enforce regulations requiring anyone wearing face coverings to remove them, emphasizing a “zero tolerance” policy toward hate crimes.
In Berlin, roughly 3,500 people participated in a march organized by United for Palestine, according to police reports. Demonstrators expressed their discontent regarding Germany’s arms exports and military support for Israel. The march began at a square located between the chancellery and parliament.
Similar protests occurred in Warsaw and Rome, where participants criticized the ongoing Israeli bombardment and their governments’ affiliations with Israel, echoing the call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.
The ongoing conflict has devastated Gaza, with reports indicating that over 74,200 Palestinians have died since October 2023.
