The U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic is urging American citizens living abroad to participate in absentee voting for upcoming elections. Citizens are encouraged to vote and return their ballots as soon as they receive them to ensure their votes are counted.
For ballot return, several options are available:
- Via the U.S. Embassy: Voters can drop off their ballot requests or completed ballots at the nearest U.S. embassy or consular agency. Ballots must be addressed to local election officials and include sufficient U.S. postage or be enclosed in a postage-paid envelope. Additional information on preparing mail can be found on the Federal Voting Assistance Program’s (FVAP) website.
- Via Fax, Email, or Internet: Some states allow the electronic transmission of completed ballots. Voters should check the FVAP website for specific guidelines based on their state.
- Via Local Mail: If reliable mail service exists, completed ballots can be sent directly to the United States with the appropriate international postage.
- Via Express Courier Service: For urgent situations or unreliable local mail, voters may utilize commercial carrier services such as FedEx, DHL, or UPS. Note that FedEx does not deliver to P.O. boxes.
The embassy advises all American citizens to familiarize themselves with their respective state laws regarding absentee voting to ensure compliance and successfully cast their votes. More details can be accessed through the FVAP’s official website.
