The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) is set to host its Annual Zonal Union Tactical Workshop on October 27 and 28, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt. This event will gather leadership and management teams from all six of CAF’s Zonal Unions, representing its 54 Member Associations.
This workshop aims to enhance strategic alignment and operational delivery across African football, following the vision of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe to develop world-class, self-sustaining football institutions. The two-day gathering will emphasize the critical role of Zonal Unions in addressing strategic priorities and delivering measurable outcomes.
“The workshop aligns with Dr. Motsepe’s vision of making football in CAF’s Member Associations self-supporting and globally competitive,” said Sarah Mukuna, CAF’s Director of Member Associations. She noted the importance of strong and effective Zonal Unions in coordinating regional support, identifying development needs, and facilitating knowledge sharing.
During the workshop, participants will develop practical implementation plans for the 2027–2028 period. The focus will be on ensuring that CAF’s strategic priorities are translated into specific objectives, measurable targets, and clear accountability. Additionally, the discussion will cover the current status of each Zone and pinpoint areas needing improvement.
The CAF IMPACT programme will be a significant part of the agenda, exploring how Zonal Unions can assist Member Associations in achieving development goals. This initiative is designed to foster coordinated efforts that enhance football growth across the continent.
The discussions will be structured around four strategic pillars: Football Development, Programmes and Projects for Capacity Building, Administration, and Competition Management. This framework aims to bolster the capacity of football organizations throughout Africa.
Furthermore, the workshop will offer a platform for the Zonal Unions to share experiences, examine common challenges, and collaborate on solutions to enhance football development and administration.
This event reaffirms CAF’s commitment to strengthening football institutions at all levels, further supporting the advancement of the sport across Africa.
