Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education (Minerd) has announced that classes will remain suspended on Wednesday, October 28, at schools located in vulnerable regions of provinces under yellow alert, due to ongoing rainfall. This decision is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and administrative staff amid adverse weather conditions.
The ministry indicated that the suspension of classes is not a nationwide measure but is specific to areas where weather conditions pose risks, particularly in provinces under yellow alert. Regional and district authorities have the discretion to continue the suspension based on local conditions.
In preparation for the inclement weather, Minerd has instructed school authorities to implement prevention protocols and protect educational facilities, equipment, and resources. The ministry emphasized the importance of monitoring official bulletins from the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and following directives from local education authorities.
This measure responds to disturbances associated with a trough affecting various parts of the country, prompting precautions to safeguard the educational community. Further updates from the Ministry of Education are expected as the situation evolves.
