The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation announced that Vietnam and Australia will host the next two Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships. The event will take place at Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Hoi An, Vietnam, from October 28 to 31, 2027, and at New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney, Australia, from November 2 to 5, 2028.
This decision was made public on Wednesday while the 17th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship is ongoing at Te Arai Links in New Zealand. The upcoming championships mark a significant milestone, with Vietnam set to host the event for the first time, while Australia is returning after previously hosting in 2014 and 2023 at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming events. “We are very fortunate to be able to stage the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at some of the world’s finest courses, and Hoiana Shores and New South Wales are undoubtedly in that category,” he said. He also highlighted the excitement of bringing the championship to Vietnam, describing it as one of the world’s great emerging golf destinations.
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship draws top male amateur golfers from the 43 member organizations under the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. The winner of the tournament receives an invitation to participate in the following year’s Masters and gains an exemption into The Open.
Notable past participants include Hideki Matsuyama, who won the event twice and is a former Masters champion, along with fellow major winners Cam Smith and Ryan Fox. Competitors have collectively achieved 34 wins on the PGA Tour and over 180 professional victories globally.
