New arts initiatives in Charleston aim to bring together the city’s creative community through a series of collaborative events. Organizers AsiahMae and Mitchell from Microdose hosted a successful poetry night on January 27, 2026, showcasing local talent, including Charleston’s poet laureate. Moving forward, Welchans, a representative of Microdose, shared their plans for summer events that will focus on collaboration. She hinted that one gathering could involve participants creating art with unconventional materials.
AsiahMae emphasized the significance of connection among artists during challenging times marked by global and national turmoil. “I feel like that’s all we have, especially right now,” she said. “It’s so easy to get burnt out in the ways that you can’t help, or like the things that you can’t change.” Mitchell echoed this sentiment, underscoring the need for a supportive community for creatives. He said, “If we all want to do art, why don’t we all just get together?”
In the realm of music and performance, the couple behind Grooving Violation, Jack Callahan and Allie Cooper Callahan, have been hosting events since April 2022. Their inaugural event took place at Bowens Island Restaurant, blending music with the natural beauty of Charleston’s Lowcountry. The Callahans strive to create an immersive experience where music transcends mere consumption, fostering community among both young creatives and established audiophiles.
“Our events bring together young creatives and lifelong audiophiles alike. We’re cultivating a space where all are welcome — if you’re here for the music, you’re in the right place,” Cooper Callahan said. Jack Callahan, who performs at all events, focuses on genres such as deep house and downtempo, tailoring the music to the venue and enhancing the overall experience for attendees.
The Grooving Violation events attract a vibrant crowd, as seen at their recent warehouse party in North Charleston on February 21, 2026, where attendees fully engaged with the unique atmosphere created by the music and venue.
Both Microdose and Grooving Violation plan to continue expanding their offerings, providing local artists and creatives with opportunities to collaborate and share their work as they navigate an ever-evolving cultural landscape.
