Ellsworth residents have elected a new city council, with former councilor Dale A. Williams and newcomer Nicole Sweeney securing seats in the recent election. Williams has previously served on the council from 2007 to 2019 and was re-elected for another term, while Sweeney marks her first entry into local politics.
The election results were finalized on election night, with 375 votes going to Williams and 353 to Sweeney. They will join previous council members, retaining continuity in leadership, while also bringing fresh perspectives with Sweeney’s addition.
The council will have upcoming important sessions to discuss various community issues, including local infrastructure and economic development. Meetings are typically held on the first and third Monday of each month at the Ellsworth City Hall.
Williams expressed gratitude to the constituents for their support and voiced his commitment to addressing the needs of the community. Sweeney highlighted her enthusiasm about contributing to local governance and her desire to enhance community engagement as she steps into her role.
Both newly elected councilors will be sworn in during the next council meeting scheduled for November 6, 2023, marking the beginning of their terms and obligations to the community.
