The Los Angeles Lakers have started their NBA season strong, winning six of their first eight games. As the trade deadline approaches, discussions about potential roster enhancements are already underway.
Although the Lakers have shown commitment to their current core, they face challenges in trade negotiations due to limited movable assets. Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report noted that the Lakers have traded much of their draft capital and now hold only a swap option for the first round of the 2032 draft.
“At this point, with so much draft equity out the door, it might actually make some sense to just fire off the rest of it,” Hughes wrote, suggesting that the teams committed to their core should consider going all in.
Hughes identified the Lakers’ 2032 first-round swap, guard Jaden Hardy, and forward Jarred Vanderbilt as their top trade assets. If the Lakers believe they are true title contenders, exploring trades involving Hardy and Vanderbilt may be beneficial, especially if their roles continue to diminish.
However, Hughes cautioned that this strategy hinges on the availability of the right player. The Lakers are lacking in surplus players to trade, which makes Hardy and Vanderbilt the most viable options, even though Vanderbilt alone may not attract significant value.
The situation leaves the Lakers with limited alternatives, as they may need to rely on their current lineup moving forward. The team’s management and fans will be watching closely to see how they navigate the upcoming trade period.
