Incheon International Airport, the primary gateway to South Korea, is anticipating significant growth in international flight capacity in October. According to British aviation consultancy OAG, the airport is projected to record 3.94 million available seats this month, marking a 6% increase from the same time last year.
This growth positions Incheon behind only Dubai International Airport, which has 4.57 million seats, and London Heathrow, with 4.12 million. Notably, both competitors experienced declines in year-on-year capacity. Meanwhile, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol retains the fourth spot with 3.72 million seats, reflecting a 1% increase, and Singapore Changi Airport rounds out the top five with 3.68 million seats, achieving a 3% growth.
In recent months, Incheon has seen an increase in passenger traffic, influenced by changes in travel plans linked to the crisis in the Middle East, as well as the airport’s rising appeal to tourists. October and November are typically peak periods for tourism in South Korea due to the seasonal draw of autumn foliage.
To accommodate this surge, Incheon International Airport will implement several measures. The main departure gates will open 30 minutes earlier than usual, and additional staff and security screening equipment will be deployed to ensure smoother operations, as reported by The Korea Herald.
Recently ranked as Asia’s second-best airport after Singapore Changi in the 2026 Skytrax World Airport Awards, Incheon handled 38.39 million international passengers in the first half of this year, reflecting a 6.3% increase from the same timeframe in 2022.
