New Battery-Swapping Solution Introduced in Europe-Africa Transport Corridor
At the IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 event in Munich, Gotion High-Tech and C&C Trucks, a subsidiary of Chery Commercial Vehicle, introduced the DIANLL Integrated Mobile Energy Storage Charging & Battery-Swapping Solution. This system aims to provide an integrated energy infrastructure for cross-border heavy-duty logistics, marking a significant step towards the electrification of the Europe-Africa transport corridor.
Innovative Approach to Electric Vehicle Challenges
As Europe implements stricter decarbonization regulations for commercial vehicles, the logistics sector is increasingly turning towards electric heavy trucks. However, several barriers hinder the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Traditional charging and battery-swapping stations necessitate significant investments in infrastructure and face lengthy construction timelines, particularly in remote areas along cross-border routes.
The DIANLL solution distinguishes itself through three notable advantages: reduced investment requirements, quick deployment capabilities, and enhanced mobility. It moves away from conventional fixed-site energy models by employing an “energy-follows-vehicle” strategy that effectively addresses the challenges faced by heavy-duty trucks in Europe.
This system features a modular battery configuration, allowing a swift 5-minute battery swap without the need for fixed charging stations. Additionally, the technology supports a bottom-mounted side-swapping system and integrates 430kWh battery packs, significantly lowering infrastructure costs.
Moreover, the DIANLL system connects to the Gotion High-TechGuard-ZERO digital energy cloud platform, which facilitates comprehensive energy management and allows for cross-regional green power allocation. It is designed to work seamlessly in conjunction with renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind systems.
The heavy truck swapping interface has been incorporated into the IEC 63066 international standard, enabling easier access to the European market and enhancing versatility in various operational scenarios, including cross-border logistics and temporary transport lines.
At the exhibition, United Truck exhibited international versions of its Phoenix BEV and Phoenix REEV heavy trucks. Gotion High-Tech and DIANLL are partnering closely with United Truck to integrate their mobile storage and charging systems with these new models.
Gotion High-Tech, United Truck, and client GPM also celebrated the delivery of the first battery-swapping heavy truck to a customer operating within the Europe-Africa corridor, alongside the signing of a strategic partnership agreement.
Why It Matters
The advent of this battery-swapping solution underscores a pivotal moment for the electrification of heavy-duty logistics. By addressing infrastructure limitations and improving energy efficiency, this initiative aims to facilitate the transition to sustainable transport between Europe and Africa, potentially transforming logistics operations in the region.
