The Washington Commanders have waived running back Kaytron Allen, a sixth-round draft pick from April, the team announced Thursday. The 23-year-old participated in all four games this season, where he recorded 12 carries for 41 rushing yards. In addition, he contributed on special teams.
Allen’s departure follows the Commanders’ decision to bring back veteran Austin Ekeler earlier in the season. Ekeler’s addition aimed to support starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt and backup Rachaad White, who had been receiving the majority of carries in Washington’s running game.
During his college career at Penn State, Allen established himself as a standout player. He maintained a minimum of 867 rushing yards each season over four years, culminating in a total of 4,180 rushing yards and 39 rushing touchdowns from 769 attempts. He also had 70 receptions for 490 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2025, Allen earned second-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association after a season in which he accumulated 1,303 rushing yards and scored 15 touchdowns.
Next, the Commanders will look to strengthen their roster as they prepare for the remainder of the season, relying on their established running backs to carry the load.
