Guatemala Deploys Troops to Haiti Amid Ongoing Security Operations
The Guatemalan military has announced the deployment of a new contingent of troops to Haiti, joining international efforts aimed at enhancing security in the region. This decision comes as Salvadoran armed forces are actively searching for four crew members from the “Task Force Libertad II,” who were attacked in Haiti on October 18, 2026.
The deployment was marked by a formal departure ceremony held at a Guatemalan airbase, presided over by Major General Henry David Saenz Ramos, the Minister of National Defense. The event was attended by the U.S. military attaché assigned to Guatemala, signifying international interest in the security operations in Haiti.
According to the military’s official statement on their Facebook page, the troops are from the 2nd Military Police Unit and will be integrated into the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti. However, the statement did not disclose the specific number of soldiers being sent or the exact timeline for their deployment to Haiti.
The ongoing security challenges in Haiti have prompted a multifaceted response from various countries in the region. In addition to Guatemala’s involvement, the situation remains critical as updates regarding the missing Salvadoran soldiers continue to unfold.
