Haiti Election Changes and Notable Developments
The Haitian elections have seen a significant amendment, allowing the acceptance of candidacies from individuals sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and other foreign nations. This change is part of the modifications made to the electoral decree’s Article 153, Paragraph 20.
In related security updates, United Nations experts reported that ammunition used by the Haitian National Police (PNH) is being regularly discovered in the possession of gangs. Their report to the Security Council highlighted that 70% of 336 rounds of 7.62 x 51 mm ammunition seized from the Jamesley and Krache Dife gangs can be traced back to diverted PNH stocks.
Additionally, the presidential race in Haiti has expanded with the announcement of Daniest Adrien as the 15th candidate, representing the Party for Restoration and Change (PRC). It is important to note that registration as a candidate does not guarantee approval by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
In sports, Melchie Daelle Dumornay, known as “Corventina,” is being recognized as a contender for two notable awards: the OL Lyonnes Player of the Month for September and the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) awards.
On an academic front, the State University of Haiti (UEH) has formalized an agreement with Taiwan’s National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). Signed by UEH Rector Dieuseul Prédélus and NCKU Executive Vice President Shyy-Woei Chang, this agreement aims to foster academic and scientific collaboration, facilitating joint projects and exchange opportunities for faculty, researchers, and students from both institutions.
Finally, the PNH announced the certification of five polygraph examiners, marking a milestone in the organization’s 31-year history. A certificate presentation ceremony took place on October 9, 2026, concluding a two-week training course focusing on post-test interview techniques. This course completes a certification process that has lasted over a year for these officers from the polygraph unit.
