Haiti Showcases Transport Sector Investment Opportunities at LAC Transport Forum 2026
During the opening day of the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Transport Forum 2026 in Miami, Minister of Public Works Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis outlined significant investment opportunities available in Haiti’s transport sector. The event, co-organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), attracted ministers, policymakers, and private-sector stakeholders interested in infrastructure development.
The Minister emphasized the Haitian government’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s infrastructure. His aim is to position Haiti as an attractive destination for regional and international investment. The forum facilitated discussions about building market confidence, improving project preparation, and ensuring high governance standards in infrastructure development.
On September 30, 2026, the second day of the forum featured a “Project Roadshow” hosted by FIDIC, tailored for private sector entities and potential international investors. Minister Pierre Louis presented a comprehensive overview of investment prospects within the transport sector, detailing his ministry’s plans to modernize the country’s transportation networks.
His proposals included several crucial projects, particularly in road infrastructure. Plans are underway to construct three major bridges in the southern peninsula, with funding support from the World Bank. Additionally, a road link is set to be developed connecting National Route 2 to the new international port at Saint-Louis-du-Sud.
In the aviation sector, the Minister detailed plans for a new control tower at Cap-Haïtien International Airport, again supported by the World Bank, as well as modernization initiatives for Les Cayes International Airport funded by the IDB. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and boost economic recovery efforts in Haiti.
Throughout his presentation, Minister Pierre Louis urged regional businesses and partners to engage in upcoming procurement processes. He stressed the importance of collaboration in transforming Haiti’s infrastructure and improving its resilience against natural disasters.
