Haiti to Convert 101 Public Schools into Fundamental Application Schools
The Haitian Minister of National Education, Vijonet Déméro, announced plans to transform 101 public schools into “Fundamental Application Schools/Pedagogical Support Centers” (EFA/CAP). This initiative aims to improve the professional development of teaching staff and enhance educational support in fundamental schools across the country.
The initiative, detailed in a circular issued by the Ministry, focuses on strengthening the skills of educators and elevating the quality of learning for students. The schools selected for this transformation span all ten departmental Directorates of Education in Haiti.
The circular provides an operational framework for converting the identified schools, delineating responsibilities among various administrative bodies. The list of schools participating in this program is included in departmental annexes attached to the circular.
Each EFA/CAP will be linked to a Pedagogical Support Center that will be constructed or rehabilitated according to the Ministry’s standards and availability of resources. This proactive approach is intended to ensure that each school has the necessary infrastructure and equipment to support educational development.
Additionally, every EFA/CAP will oversee a network of approximately fifty associated fundamental schools, providing continuous professional development and pedagogical guidance. Each center is slated to be staffed by two pedagogical advisors, pending budget availability.
Management and technical oversight for the project will fall under the General Directorate, which will coordinate efforts through the Directorate of Fundamental Education (DEF) and the EFA/CAP Coordination Unit (UCEFA/CAP).
