The 4A region cross country championships took place last week, culminating in a divisional meet set for October 14 at Lakeside Park in Orem. Athletes will compete for spots in the state championship, slated for October 28 at Sugarhouse Park.
Championship Highlights
In Region 8, hosted at Scera Park in Orem, the Mountain View girls team claimed victory with a total of 40 points, followed by Timpanogos with 55 points and Orem with 62 points. Anna Bliss from Timpanogos led the individual girls’ race, finishing with a time of 18:49.8. The boys’ contest was similarly competitive, with Mountain View securing first place at 19 points, while Orem finished with 73 points. Kyle Chipman of Mountain View was the top individual finishers, recording a time of 16:05.5.
At Bloomington Hills North Park for Region 9, Cedar took the girls’ team title with a score of 38. Eliza Johnson from Cedar topped the individual rankings with a time of 18:42.03. Pine View won the boys’ competition, finishing with 28 points, with Jackson Mathews from Desert Hills crossing the line first in the individual race at 16:07.17.
Region 10’s competition was held at Cottonwood Complex, where Highland’s girls team edged out Park City with a score of 30 to 32. Brooke Greenberg from Park City claimed the individual girls’ title, finishing in 18:04.2. In the boys’ race, Jordan prevailed with a team score of 31, while Isaac Brande also of Jordan set the pace, clocking in at 15:47.3.
In Region 11, held at the Cottonwood Complex, Sky View and Mountain Crest tied with 63 points, but Sky View was awarded the championship based on sixth-runner results. Lizzie McFarland from Green Canyon was the top female finisher at 17:36.0, while Peter Marble from Tooele won the boys’ individual race in 15:21.7.
As teams prepare for the upcoming 4A Divisional meet this Wednesday, anticipation builds for the state championship on October 28, where athletes will vie for recognition and titles in the final stages of the cross country season.
