Jesuit leaders have gathered for a plenary session to discuss the future of Jesuits in formation and the challenges they face. Key topics included psycho-spiritual support, safeguarding, and the need for adaptive strategies for young religious in an evolving world. The discussions underscored a commitment to fostering healthy, supportive environments that promote growth in faith, discernment, and a strong sense of vocation.
Participants also examined the changing context of the Jesuit mission, emphasizing the importance of addressing issues related to technological advancements, including artificial intelligence. Superiors highlighted that the formation of Jesuits should encompass not only theological and philosophical foundations but also the skills necessary to engage thoughtfully with the complex social and ecological challenges of contemporary society.
In addition to formation, the plenary included updates on various initiatives within the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), focusing on higher education, popular education, apostolic planning, and organizational renewal. These updates revealed the extensive reach of JCAM’s mission and the interconnected nature of its ministries across the region.
During the session, Major Superiors were also introduced to the Jesuit mission in Algeria, further broadening the context of their discussions. The plenary serves as a platform for reflection and planning, ensuring that Jesuit formation remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the communities they serve.
