EDMONTON, Alberta — Lucas Raymond scored the decisive goal in the shootout and contributed two assists during regulation, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.
In addition to Raymond’s performance, Viktor Arvidsson, Emmitt Finnie, and Dylan Larkin each found the net in regulation for the Red Wings, who concluded a four-game road trip with a record of 2-1-1.
Michal Postava, making his first career NHL start, recorded 25 saves during regulation and successfully stopped three shots in the shootout to secure his first win. The 24-year-old goalie from Czechia had replaced John Gibson in the third period of a previous game against Vancouver, which Detroit won 5-2.
The Oilers responded with goals from Vasily Podkolzin, Isaac Howard, and Colton Dach but suffered their second consecutive loss. Compounding their troubles, forward Zach Hyman left the game after an injury that appeared to be a concussion.
Tristan Jarry stopped 26 shots in goal for Edmonton, while Connor McDavid extended his points streak to 12 games, notching an assist. With a total of 34 points, he now leads the NHL and holds the franchise record for most points before November 1. McDavid also matched the longest season-opening assist streak in NHL history, equaling records held by greats such as Wayne Gretzky.
The Red Wings faced three separate deficits throughout the game, managing to equalize the score for a third time with just 1:17 left in the final period. Larkin capitalized on a bouncing puck in front of the net for his second goal of the season.
Looking ahead, the Red Wings will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night, while the Oilers prepare to face the Calgary Flames at home on Wednesday evening.
