Two major party candidates, Democrat Denise Powell and Republican Brinker Harding, are set to face off in a debate on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT, aiming to represent Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. This district includes Omaha and other areas in eastern Nebraska.
The debate will be broadcast live by Nebraska Public Media and is held in light of the upcoming midterm elections to replace incumbent Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican who is stepping down after five terms in the House.
Bacon, known for his critical stance towards President Donald Trump during his second term, announced his retirement earlier this year. The changing political landscape in the district is reflected in the Cook Political Report’s recent rating, which shifted the race from “Lean Democrat” to “Likely Democrat.”
As both candidates prepare for the debate, they will outline their visions for the district and respond to questions that may shape the electoral decision for Nebraska voters.
