Deutsche Telekom is advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) partner ecosystem through a new collaboration between its subsidiary T-Systems and Sparxity, an AI infrastructure firm based in Dresden. The two companies signed a Letter of Intent at the German Federal Government’s Digital Summit, aiming to integrate Sparxity’s energy-efficient computing technology with T-Systems’ extensive data center operations.
The signing ceremony featured notable attendees, including Karsten Wildberger, the Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation; Hector A. Gonzalez, co-founder and CEO of Sparxity; and Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems.
Joint Development of Energy-Efficient AI Systems
T-Systems and Sparxity plan to collaboratively develop the next generation of energy-efficient AI computing infrastructure in Europe. Sparxity’s technology focuses on “sparse computation,” which optimizes the distribution of computing power to areas where it is most needed. The initial phase will utilize Sparxity’s existing hardware to create strategies for integrating the upcoming generation of Sparxity chips into T-Systems’ data centers, with the first deployments slated for 2028.
The partnership aims to produce high-performance, energy-efficient AI computing systems tailored for various applications. Specific details of the collaboration are expected to be finalized in the coming months.
Karsten Wildberger remarked, “The project shows that digital sovereignty is feasible in Germany – if we combine our own technological expertise with efficient infrastructure and strong partners. The Digital Summit gives such cooperation an important impetus and brings together the players who are shaping Germany’s digital future.”
Hector A. Gonzalez emphasized the advantages of their computing technology, stating, “Our computing technology is designed to concentrate computing power only where it is needed. This makes AI more energy-efficient and scalable. We see great potential in partnering with T-Systems to bring our next-generation chip into data center deployments.”
Ferri Abolhassan highlighted the necessity for a robust AI infrastructure in Germany and Europe, adding, “With our T Cloud portfolio and our AI factory in Munich, we have created the basis for this. We are open to further partners and are looking forward to having Sparxity on board in our AI factory soon.”
Sparxity specializes in sparse-native computing for AI, focusing on efficiency by computing only what matters. Their systems are already in use across Europe and the United States, and the collaboration with T-Systems aims to further enhance their capabilities.
