Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, affirmed that Europe will maintain pressure on Russia, rejecting any notion of easing sanctions. Her comments followed a recent deal between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Kallas highlighted the human cost of the ongoing conflict, reporting that over 80 Ukrainian civilians have died from Russian strikes in the past two days. She noted a surge in hybrid attacks by Russia targeting both EU member states and NATO allies.
She criticized plans to suspend sanctions on Russian diesel, stating that such moves would provide Moscow with additional revenue to continue its military efforts. “This is not the time to ease pressure on Russia, and Europe won’t,” Kallas emphasized.
On Monday, EU Foreign Ministers are set to approve a comprehensive package of sanctions against Russia’s military operations, which would be the largest since the onset of the conflict, according to Kallas. This announcement comes at a pivotal moment as the EU seeks to bolster its stance against escalating aggression from Russia.
In related developments, it was reported that with U.S. approval, Russia is poised to supply 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the global market, significantly boosting its exports moving forward.
