WATERLOO – The Grout Museum District is set to open its new Imaginarium Science Gallery to the public on Tuesday, December 15. The gallery aims to provide local children and science enthusiasts with a hands-on learning experience, promoting creativity and exploration.
Officials from the museum described the Imaginarium as a return of “hands-on science exploration and discovery” to the Cedar Valley, now located inside the Grout Museum of History and Science. The new gallery is part of the museum’s commitment to continuing the legacy of a children’s science center that has inspired curiosity for over 30 years.
The facility features a range of interactive exhibits designed to encourage experimentation, problem-solving, creativity, and play. New attractions include A-Mazing Airways, where visitors can send objects through winding pathways, Pendulum Waves to explore motion, and a physics-based Roller Coaster.
Other installations will allow guests to delve into concepts such as light, color, patterns, air pressure, and static electricity. “The gallery will offer opportunities to discover scientific concepts through hands-on experiences,” museum officials stated.
Margaret Moye, executive director of the Grout Museum District, expressed enthusiasm for the new facility, emphasizing its role in continuing the Imaginarium’s tradition of inspiring curiosity. “This project allows us to build on what generations of families have loved about the Imaginarium while creating new opportunities for exploration and discovery,” she said.
The development of the Imaginarium Science Gallery is part of the District’s “Reimagine the Imag: Inspiring Curiosity for Future Generations” campaign, which supports renovations and the introduction of new exhibits to ensure the space’s long-term sustainability.
Further details about the opening, including hours and visitor information, will be released as the date approaches. Updates can be found on the Grout Museum District’s website and social media platforms.
