Dr. Nosa Omorodion, Country Director of Schlumberger Nigeria Limited (SLB), received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the African Energy Chamber (AEC) at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa. This honor recognizes Omorodion’s significant contributions to the energy industry in Nigeria and across Africa over more than three decades.
N.Y. Ayuk, the Executive Chairman of AEC, highlighted Omorodion’s influence in technology development and local content advancement, noting his role in fostering the growth of indigenous energy companies. Ayuk described Omorodion as “a true legend” and a “determined fighter for Africa’s energy future,” emphasizing how his career has enhanced technical expertise, bolstered local capacity, and created opportunities for African professionals and businesses.
Omorodion has played a key role in guiding national oil companies through challenging periods, with Ayuk calling his counsel and judgment invaluable to the sector. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Omorodion has championed the development of young Africans through various initiatives. These include the Tech Graduate Trainee Programme, the SLB Young Creators Programme, and Nigeria’s first AI Academy, all aimed at expanding access to technical training and equipping young people with skills relevant to a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Ayuk also mentioned SLB’s collaboration with the ONE Campaign, which focuses on installing solar power systems in healthcare facilities across Nigeria. This initiative aims to improve electricity reliability and reduce reliance on diesel generators. Ayuk remarked that these efforts reflect Omorodion’s belief in energy as a crucial enabler of healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and human dignity.
“He did not make the moment about himself. Instead, he challenged us to focus on the future and on empowering, equipping, and developing Africa’s young people,” Ayuk said. He noted that Omorodion’s legacy extends beyond his leadership roles, encompassing the professionals he has mentored and the opportunities he has created for others.
Ayuk called the recognition both a tribute to Omorodion’s accomplishments and a reminder of the ongoing work needed to strengthen Africa’s energy industry. He noted the need for communities to gain access to reliable power and for young Africans to find opportunities in a competitive market. “Your Lifetime Achievement Award honors the past, but your example points us toward the future,” Ayuk concluded.
Omorodion is also remembered as a family man and a mentor, with achievements measured not only by his success but by the impact he has had on the lives and careers of many.
