Canal+’s MultiChoice and M-Net will replace the Africa Magic Family channel with Africa Magic+ effective November 5, 2026. This change marks the end of the Africa Magic Family channel’s 12-year run on DStv.
The Africa Magic Family channel, which has catered primarily to a Nigerian audience, specialized in family-oriented Nollywood dramas and series. Its replacement, Africa Magic+, will also target similar demographics.
The format of Africa Magic+ mirrors recent changes seen in South Africa, where Mzansi Wethu transitioned to the Wethu+ channel, now part of the DStv Starter package. This strategic move positions Africa Magic+ in a lower-priced tier, aimed at broadening its audience reach.
Officials from Canal+, MultiChoice, and M-Net have indicated that the shift to a more accessible package is designed to engage a wider viewership while maintaining a focus on family-friendly content.
The transition to Africa Magic+ is part of ongoing adjustments within MultiChoice’s programming strategy to enhance viewer experience on its platforms.
More details about programming and specific content on Africa Magic+ are expected closer to the channel’s launch date.
