As the NFL trade deadline approaches, the Las Vegas Raiders, currently holding a 4-4 record, may be considering moves to enhance their roster while offloading some players. ESPN’s Seth Walder suggested the team could target Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who has not seen much production this season.
According to Walder, the Jaguars appear to be “giving up” on Thomas, making him a candidate for potential trade discussions. He noted that acquiring Thomas could provide the Raiders with a strong receiving option, stating, “He would become the clear No. 1 option in Las Vegas.”
Raiders show interest in Jaguars’ underutilized receiver
In the ongoing 2026 season, Thomas has registered just 10 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns through Week 8. His limited involvement in Jacksonville’s passing game, overshadowed by teammates Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Brenton Strange, raises questions about his role moving forward.
For the Raiders, a boost in receiving talent is crucial. While Tre Tucker has emerged as a reliable player, the current roster lacks a player poised to take on a number one role. Other wide receivers, including Jalen Nailor and Jack Bech, have not consistently filled that void.
Recruiting Thomas could transform the Raiders’ receiving corps, particularly when paired with other offensive options like tight ends Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. This trade could provide long-term benefits, as Thomas remains under contract through 2027, with a potential fifth-year option for 2028.
The Raiders’ interest in Thomas reflects their desire to bolster the offense while potentially moving on from underperforming players. While it remains uncertain if Thomas is officially on the trade block, he could offer a valuable asset to Las Vegas if he becomes available.
The deadline for trades is approaching, and it will be critical for the Raiders to make decisive moves to improve their chances for the remainder of the season.
