El Salvador has dispatched special forces to Haiti in response to an attack that left four Salvadoran soldiers missing. The deployment comes amid rising unrest in Haiti, where security concerns are escalating.
The whereabouts of the four soldiers became uncertain after they were targeted by armed groups while on a mission in the northern region of Haiti. El Salvador’s government has described the soldiers as “brave defenders of peace,” affirming its commitment to their safe recovery.
President Nayib Bukele announced the assistance, emphasizing the importance of supporting the nation’s military personnel. “Our soldiers have a mission to fulfill, and we will do everything necessary to bring them home safely,” Bukele stated.
The El Salvadoran soldiers were part of a larger international contingent in Haiti, aimed at maintaining order as the country grapples with significant political and social instability. The Haitian government has struggled to control gang violence, which has significantly disrupted daily life across the nation.
As the situation develops, El Salvador’s military is collaborating closely with Haitian authorities to locate the missing soldiers and ensure their protection amid ongoing threats from armed factions.
In the meantime, officials from El Salvador have promised to keep the public informed on developments regarding the recovery efforts. The situation remains fragile, with the potential for further violence complicating rescue operations.
