New light vehicle sales across all ten provinces in Canada saw an increase in September, according to data from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. Approximately 168,000 vehicles were sold, marking a 3.4% rise compared to the same month last year.
Saskatchewan led the growth with a notable 10.1% year-on-year increase, while Prince Edward Island experienced a 9.6% uptick. Despite this monthly improvement, the year-to-date sales figures tell a more complex story, with total vehicle sales reaching 1.46 million units, which is a decline of 0.7% from the previous year.
Andrew King, managing partner at DesRosiers, noted that the market remains relatively stable across regions, with year-to-date performance for most provinces fluctuating within a narrow range of +2.1% to -2.5%. The only exception is Prince Edward Island, which has shown more significant growth compared to the others.
The data suggests that while September brought some positive momentum for vehicle sales, the overall picture for the year remains mixed with a slight downturn in cumulative figures. The trend in sales may be influenced by various factors, including economic conditions and consumer demand moving into the final months of the year.
Further updates on vehicle sales and market trends are expected as automotive companies and analysts continue to monitor developments in the Canadian auto industry.
