Anthropic is inviting members of the life sciences sector to submit proposals for a new guest investigator program aimed at exploring critical questions in areas like causal human biology, structural and computational molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, and clinical science. This initiative targets principal investigators and their teams from academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government laboratories.
Proposals can be submitted directly through the Anthropic website. Over a collaboration period of 8 to 12 weeks, selected guest investigators will partner with Anthropic researchers to address specific problems and create valuable analyses, tools, and resources to aid their research. Anthropic will facilitate the use of its models and harnesses at no cost to the participants.
Output from these collaborations is intended to be published, and accompanying data and code will be made open-source. Importantly, guest investigators will retain full rights to their data throughout the project and any subsequent research stemming from the collaboration.
Applicants are encouraged to outline how they would benefit from working alongside Anthropic’s researchers and to demonstrate that their proposed outcomes, such as preliminary discoveries or open-source datasets, can be realistically achieved within the specified time frame. Extensions may be possible for some projects beyond the initial period.
While acknowledging that many complex research questions take longer to validate, Anthropic is seeking proposals that can yield preliminary results promptly. The company emphasizes that it will not require guest investigators to share their data during the application or collaboration phases, and applicants should focus only on publicly available information in their submissions.
The application window will remain open for about 14 days, with notifications sent to selected participants approximately two weeks after the closing date. This program is one of several initiatives aimed at strengthening Anthropic’s engagement with the life sciences and broader scientific research community.
Scientists interested in direct access to Anthropic’s advanced publicly available models for biological research can also apply to join the Life Sciences Verification Program. Additionally, Anthropic’s AI for Science initiative continues to assist researchers by providing Claude credits to support their scientific discoveries.
