Heavy rains have led to severe flooding and landslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, resulting in at least four fatalities and widespread damage, authorities reported on Tuesday.
The Civil Protection Agency in Haiti confirmed four deaths and two missing individuals in the southwestern region, where over 3,200 families have been affected and hundreds of homes destroyed. The agency noted that landslides have blocked several roads in the area.
In the Dominican Republic, rainfall has isolated approximately 30 communities, and more than 100 homes have been inundated, according to the country’s Emergency Operations Center. The two nations share the island of Hispaniola.
The recent rainfall is attributed to a low-pressure system moving through the northern Caribbean, causing significant weather disruptions in the region.
