Hapag-Lloyd is set to enhance its services between Asia and Latin America by launching two new standalone services, known as AMX and ASX, starting January 2027, as announced in a company press release.
AMX Service to Mexico
The AMX service will operate weekly and facilitate connections between major Asian ports and various locations in Mexico, including Ensenada, Manzanillo, and Lazaro Cardenas. Key ports involved in the service also include Ningbo and Qingdao in China, and Busan in South Korea. Hapag-Lloyd emphasized that AMX will improve connectivity and transit-time options between Asia and the West Coast of Latin America, further enhancing cargo planning for shippers.
The service will be managed directly by Hapag-Lloyd, which aims to boost operational control and service reliability. Regular weekly departures are expected to aid in cargo logistics, alongside opportunities for transshipment in Mexico to reach more destinations along the West Coast of Latin America. Additional details regarding the schedule will be released soon.
ASX Service and Regional Links
The ASX service is designed to strengthen the connection between Asia and the East Coast of South America. It includes direct port calls and increased regional connectivity, with a rotation that travels from Qingdao to Ningbo, Shekou, Tanjung Pelepas, Santos, Itajaí, and Rio Grande, before returning to Santos and concluding at Qingdao via Singapore.
Both the AMX and ASX services will directly connect with Qingdao, further solidifying ties between Asia and Latin America. Furthermore, various transshipment connections will offer access to additional markets throughout Asia, with feeder services from Rio Grande planned to reach Montevideo and Buenos Aires, expanding coverage of the River Plate region.
Hapag-Lloyd indicated that more information about the ASX’s launch date, sailing schedules, booking procedures, and the transition of cargo from the existing AS2 service will be made available prior to the commencement of this new service.
