Louisville’s high-powered offense is set to take on Georgia Tech this week in Atlanta, with the Cardinals aiming to maintain their position in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) standings. The Cardinals currently sit in third place with a 5-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the ACC.
This matchup offers Louisville an opportunity to achieve its first four-game winning streak during the regular season since 2023, the inaugural year for head coach Jeff Brohm at his alma mater.
Conversely, Georgia Tech, with a 2-6 record and only one win in five conference games, is striving to avoid its first losing season since 2022. That year, Brent Key took over as coach after the team started 1-3 under Geoff Collins.
Brohm’s offensive unit leads the nation, averaging 7.8 yards per play and recording a remarkable 58 plays of at least 20 yards. The Cardinals have scored 12 touchdowns from 50 or more yards, which is also the highest in the Football Bowl Subdivision, with at least one such touchdown in every game this season.
Running back Isaac Brown has been a standout performer for Louisville in recent weeks, scoring eight of his nine touchdowns this season in the last four games. His scoring runs include impressive distances of 23, 68, 70, 75, and 97 yards, along with a 46-yard reception. “When he gets that ball, great things are going to happen, and it just makes you want to go so hard for him,” said Cardinals offensive lineman Johnnie Brown III.
This week, Louisville will face a Georgia Tech defense that has struggled to prevent big plays. The Yellow Jackets have allowed 70 explosive plays—defined as passing plays of 20 yards or more and rushing plays of 10 yards or more—tying for the 12th most in the nation.
On the offensive side, Georgia Tech ranks 11th in total offense within the ACC, averaging 361.1 yards per game. The team has faced challenges in recent losses to Boston College and Pittsburgh, prompting Key to change quarterbacks from Alberto Mendoza to Grady Adamson during those games.
When addressing the quarterback situation, Key remarked on the approach to the upcoming game, “We’ll sit down on Thursday evening as a staff and make a decision… on who goes out and gives us the best opportunity to win this football game.”
Mendoza is currently completing 70.4% of his passes with 10 touchdown throws and six interceptions. In the recent loss to Pittsburgh, he completed 16 of 25 attempts, totaling just 81 passing yards.
