SINGAPORE — Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing secured a historic victory at the 2026 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix earlier this month, marking his first win in a race that had previously eluded him for a decade.
This year’s event, held from October 9 to 11, showcased not only thrilling motorsport action but also an extensive live music festival featuring high-profile artists such as The Killers, Janet Jackson, and Lana Del Rey. The festival has gained recognition as a premier annual music event in Asia since its inception in 2008, according to industry insiders.
Organizers reported impressive attendance numbers, with over 301,000 spectators at the event, making it the second-highest turnout in its history. This success is underscored by the fact that international visitors accounted for about half of the total attendees.
The vibrant atmosphere at the Singapore GP is often compared to that of Coachella. Brett Murrihy, head of Asia Pacific at William Morris Endeavour, described the event as having garnered a reputation for its exceptional buying power and influence compared to other music festivals in the region.
The weekend event took place across downtown Singapore, with extensive support from the Singapore government. Adam Firth, executive director of Singapore GP, highlighted the logistics involved in coordinating such a significant event, noting that numerous agencies are involved in facilitating the festival.
Despite concerns about weather conditions due to nearby bushfires affecting air quality, the festival went ahead largely uninterrupted. Rain fell just before the Sprint Race, prompting some adjustments to the entertainment schedule, yet organizers proceeded as planned.
This year’s lineup featured 43 acts, indicating an ongoing commitment to providing entertainment beyond the racing itself. Firth emphasized the importance of creating a diverse program that appeals to a wide range of audiences, from young fans to more mature motorsport enthusiasts.
The music festival included performances from both local and international talent, showcasing acts like CORTIS, DJ Snake, Major Lazer Soundsystem, and closing with Lana Del Rey, who attracted a crowd of approximately 60,000 fans at the Padang Stage. This concert also marked her first major performance in Singapore.
Looking ahead, Firth and his team are already planning for the next year’s festival, aiming to enhance the overall experience for fans while maintaining the event’s status as a leading entertainment destination.
