To strengthen bilateral relations, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam met with a high-ranking delegation from the Dominican Republic’s United Left Movement (MIU) Party in Hanoi on October 26. The delegation, led by MIU General Secretary Miguel Mejia, is on a working visit to Vietnam from October 25 to 29.
During the meeting, To Lam welcomed Mejia back to Vietnam and praised the recent positive developments in the partnership between the two parties and countries. He expressed gratitude for the MIU’s solidarity and support for Vietnam, particularly acknowledging Mejia’s contributions to the restoration of a monument dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Santo Domingo.
To Lam emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to further enhancing its friendship and cooperation with the Dominican Republic, as well as with the MIU and other political groups. He encouraged the implementation of a cooperation agreement covering the 2023–2028 period. This includes initiatives in trade, investment, tourism, and agriculture.
The Vietnamese leader urged Mejia and the MIU to act as a conduit for Vietnamese businesses interested in investing in the Dominican Republic and to facilitate connections for Dominican companies seeking to enter the Vietnamese market.
Mejia expressed his honor at being back in Vietnam and conveyed confidence in the country’s future under CPV leadership. He reiterated the MIU’s commitment to reinforcing its traditional friendship with the CPV and to effectively implementing their cooperation agreement to enhance ties between the two nations.
Both leaders discussed the importance of political dialogue and cooperation at all levels, agreeing to promote the exchange of political delegations, enhance mutual understanding, and coordinate efforts in external communication at multilateral forums.
This meeting marks a significant step in fostering ongoing collaboration between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, focusing on sustained and substantial development for the benefit of both nations.
