Jordanian security forces arrested three men early Monday in connection with a deadly church attack that occurred during a funeral last week in southern Jordan, state media reports. The incident left nine people dead and has been described as one of the most lethal incidents in the country in recent years.
According to Petra, the Jordanian state news agency, the arrests took place during a predawn raid on an abandoned house in Karak, the region where the attack on the Greek Orthodox Church happened. The suspects reportedly resisted arrest and opened fire on the security forces, who then returned fire, wounding and disarming the individuals before taking them into custody.
No security personnel were reported injured during the operation, and authorities recovered firearms and ammunition from the suspects’ hideout.
The identities of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed, nor have officials provided specific information regarding the charges they might face. The investigation into the church attack continues, with authorities working to gather further details about the incident and its motives.
The shooting took place in Hamoud village, heightening concerns about security in the region. As the investigation unfolds, more information is expected to emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding both the attack and the subsequent arrests.
