Honda has unveiled a new generation of its popular adventure motorcycle, the Africa Twin, for 2027. The revamped bike, now designated as the CRF1150L, features a 1,131 cc parallel twin engine that produces 117 horsepower and 88 pounds-feet of torque. The upgraded model was revealed during the EICMA trade show. A notable addition to the lineup is the Africa Twin Enduro Sports, which is promoted as a more off-road-focused variant of the series.
The new engine retains the 270-degree crank offset common in contemporary designs and is fitted to a redesigned frame that positions the fuel tank beneath the seat, lowering the center of gravity. This configuration is expected to enhance handling, although the exact weight of the new model has not yet been disclosed.
The New Variant
The Africa Twin Enduro Sports is being marketed as a performance-oriented bike, equipped with front suspension that Honda claims matches the specifications of the CRF450. This move signals Honda’s intent to appeal to off-road enthusiasts looking for a robust choice in adventure motorcycles.
Despite criticisms surrounding the practicality of larger adventure bikes in extreme off-road conditions, the Enduro Sports aims to cater to riders searching for a more capable and sporty alternative. Honda’s ambition seems to reach those who value performance in diverse terrains.
Updated Features
While introducing the Enduro Sports, Honda also updated its standard Africa Twin and Adventure Sports variants. Both models now come equipped with Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment, referred to as “Skyhook,” which is designed to adjust the bike’s suspension settings in near real-time based on road conditions. This system aims to improve rider comfort, particularly on long-distance journeys.
The electronic suspension is complemented by various electronic rider aids, including lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, and stability control, which can be customized across six different riding modes. Honda continues to offer a dual-clutch transmission option across all three models.
Adventure Touring Enhancements
The Adventure Sports model maintains its road-oriented focus, highlighted by a larger 6.34-gallon fuel tank and a unique fairing design. It features a 19-inch front wheel, cross-spoked for tubeless compatibility, and integrates advanced technology such as Honda Sensing Ride, which includes dual radar units to enhance safety features.
This new technology allows for adaptive cruise control that can bring the bike to a complete stop and resume movement automatically. The radar system also offers collision warnings and a group ride mode, further integrating modern safety features into the adventure motorcycle segment.
As Honda aims to blend performance and comfort, the 2027 Africa Twin models are positioned as significant updates to their predecessors, enhancing both power and technology for adventure riders.
